New Power Supply

Amazon was having a sale for the CORSAIR RMi Series, RM1000i, 1000 Watt, 80+ Gold Certified, Fully Modular - Digital Power Supply so I picked it up for 127$.

This was to replace the 450 watt power supply in my NAS. The EVGA 450 watt was enough power for the server but did not have enough SATA connectors so adapters were being used. Since I do not want to burn down my house I decided it was worth the upgrade (Molex to SATA are known to overheat and catch fire).

Hardware Parts:

  • ADDED CORSAIR RMi Series, RM1000i
  • Removed EVGA 450 BT, 80+ Bronze 450W
Hardware Installation:
  • Hardware installation went smoothly and without issue. The 20+4 motherboard cable is quite stiff and makes cable routeing through the case difficult so that step was skipped. The modular cables are nice and long. The power supply comes with 12 SATA connectors and that let all of the drives connect without using adapters.
Software Installation:
  • No software was installed for this power-supply. The Corsair RM100i comes with Corsair Link but that was not installed.
Overall I purchased a power-supply that is more capable than my needs so that the server has room to grow and expand.  I was concerned that running the power-supply with such little load would cause a large power inefficiency and increase wattage usage. I measured the wattage after installation and saw no notable power difference. The Corsair is quieter in the server since the server does not pull enough load to engage the power supply fan.
